The Qtext command

 

Text entities require a considerable amount of time to display and print, especially if you are using modest equipment and the drawings are very large. Autodesk provided a command QTEXT to overcome this limitation.

When Quick Text is enabled, text entities are replaced by rectangular boxes that indicate the outline of the area occupied by the text as shown below. 

When QTEXT is on, text is replaced by a box.

When Quick Text is off (as it is by default), text entities are displayed normally as shown below.

Qtext is off - it's a toggle!

When you turn Quick Text on or off, you must regenerate the drawing before the change is displayed. Use the REGEN command.

CAD users sometimes inadvertently toggle the QTEXT option in IntelliCAD and AutoCAD to the ON position.
