If you are a long time AutoCAD or IntelliCAD user, you may be used to
simply typing the required entity snap at the command line when you want
to 'latch onto' a geometric point on an entity - typing end, mid, node
etc. This may not work! IntelliCAD 2001 appears to handle entity snaps
differently to IntelliCAD 2000.
Intelligent Snaps
Out of the box, ICAD 2001 now features the flyover 'Intelligent
Snaps' found in AutoCAD Rl14 and this may cause problems if you try to
type the OSNAP setting after starting a command. The osnaps do not
appear to work in the way that they do in 2000.
There are
several 'fixes'. You can turn off the fly-over feature. To do this
type PR and adjust the Enable fly-over snap settings as shown in the
figure below.
If you really want
to wind IntelliCAD back to an early state, disable fly-over snaps and
enable the aperture box. IntelliCAD then works like early versions of
AutoCAD. However, this does seem a rather retrograde step and
short sighted as flyovers can be useful. It is better to learn to use
them as discussed below.
It is better to ensure that the entity snap
toolbar is showing (using View>toolbars. Then look closely at the
toolbar. Running object snaps are indicated by a depressed icon. Int the
figure below, END and QUA are on and so the cursor snaps to the quadrant
of the circle when a command is started and you are asked to select an
entity.
Now when you issue a command such as LINE and try to lock onto an entity
and type an object snap, (say MID) the command will work you will be
rewarded with the equivalent of AutoCAD's Intelligent snaps.
