PID Workshop

 

This workshop is designed to help process design engineers improve their AutoCAD/IntelliCAD skills, concentrating on the value of placing symbols (blocks) with stored non-graphical attributes in CAD process and instrumentation drawings. 

We show how to extract non-graphic information stored with blocks and how to import this data into Excel for subsequent manipulation.

Course duration:

CAD Workshop - Process and Instrumentation normally runs over one day, but can be extended if required. Cost is $285.00 inc. GST.

Prerequisites:

A reasonably good understanding of CAD drafting using either AutoCAD or IntelliCAD.

Working to a drawing standard

Does your P&ID drawing meet the company standard. Using an AutoLISP program to automate checking. What blocks are used in a drawing? Counting blocks using AutoLISP.

Selection Sets

Creating and manipulating selection sets in AutoCAD.

Creating Blocks

The block command. Creating blocks inside drawings. Writing blocks to a file. Use of layers in blocks. Scaling blocks, Inserting blocks. Purging blocks. The value of layer zero. Redefining blocks.

Custom menus

Creating menus with options for for inserting blocks quickly and easily. Breaking around blocks using menu macros.

Defining Attributes

Adding attributes to blocks

Extracting attribute information

Extracting equipment information. Passing the information to Excel, sorting and cleaning up data. Importing data back to a CAD drawing.

 

Note: In addition to providing courses in our dedicated training centre located within a campus of the University of Adelaide, we also run many courses via our distance learning program. This course is not yet available via distance learning.
